Decompressing .zst files in Windows
Starting from May 2025 we’re introducing zstd (Zstandard) as the default compression algorithm for historical XCore logs replacing ZIP that was used previously. Original ZIP format was introduced in 1989 and while it’s widely supported, compression and decompression speed as well as the compression ratio no longer satisfy modern requirements. By switching to zstd, you’ll benefit from significantly faster decompression times when accessing these logs compared to the old ZIP format.
Historical XCore logs now use the .zst extension instead of .zip. To decompress .zst files on Windows, you can use one of the following tools:
- PeaZip: https://peazip.github.io/
- 7-Zip: https://www.7-zip.org/
- WinRAR: https://www.rarlab.com/
